Texas, Florida Are Top Moving Destinations in the US
Florida and Texas drew the most residents from seven states each.
Florida and Texas are the most popular moving destinations in the US, according to a new study from Forbes Home analyzing US Census Bureau data.
The Sunshine State shares the #1 choice spot for movers from seven different states, with the most coming from Georgia, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan and Indiana. Texas tied as a favorite for movers from seven more states, including Arkansas, California, Colorado, Louisiana, Utah, Oklahoma and New Mexico, And the most movers to Texas came from California, at 82,235 people relocating to the Lone StarState.
California also nabbed the #2 spot, ranking as the most popular moving destination for residents of Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Nevada, Texas and Washington which had the most people moving from there to the Golden State in 2019.
Washington, Massachusetts and Minnesota are each the number one destination for three states. Washington is most popular for movers from Idaho, Oregon, and Montana, while Massachusetts is tops for movers from Maine, New Hampshire, and Rhode Island. Meanwhile, Minnesota draws the most movers from North Dakota and South Dakota.
Southwest Florida has ranked as one of the top destinations for net migration in the US with over 20,000 residents moving into the region in the last four years, according to John Burns Real Estate Consulting. In addition, half of the top 10 migration destinations are in Florida, including Cape Coral, North Port-Sarasota, Orlando, Miami and Tampa), per Redfin data.
