The second quarter of 2024 saw solid boosts in both single-family permit issuance and construction across the country, led by a rebound in high density areas, according to a new analysis by the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB).
Results for multifamily builders were less positive, the NAHB's Home Building Geography Index revealed. Multifamily construction slowed and permitting continued its downward trend.
Problems developers face include higher interest rates, a shortage of workers and challenges with the supply chain for some building materials, said NAHB chairman Carl Harris.
