KANSAS CITY, MO-The 16,500-sf Meiners Thriftway grocery at 224 N.W. Oldham Parkway has closed, citing overwhelming competition from the recent openings of supercenter groceries in the suburban Lee's Summit area.

Meiners also owns grocery stores on the Country Club Plaza, the Brookside neighborhood and on Prospect Avenue. A company spokesman said those stores would not be affected.

A buyer for the Lee's Summit location has not yet been found.
