Acterna is the is the second largest communications test company and in specific terms is the world's largest provider of test and management solutions for optical transport, access and cable networks. Acterna is a subsidiary of Acterna Corp. and has its current headquarters off Route 118 here. It currently has 1,000 employees at that location.

The building now under construction is actually the second phase of a planned headquarters campus for Acterna. The facility under development will be completed early in 2002. The entire campus is a 44-acre parcel. It is located at the northeast quadrant of I-270 and Ridge Road. Also on the parcel is a six-story, 180,000-sf headquarters, which is also under construction. Up to 680,000 sf of construction can take place at the site.

The new 130,000 sf multi-use building will have 60,000 sf of office space on two floors and a one-story manufacturing area, totaling 70,000 sf. The manufacturing space will have special humidity and vibration controls and enhanced fireproofing among its custom built details. The two distinct uses of the building will be joined with a fully sky lit stair core, which will have access to both parts of the building.
