DENVER-Colorado's 43 casinos generated a record $63.6 million in net proceeds in March. That is the best month in the 11-year history of limited stakes gambling in three mountain communities of Black Hawk, Cripple Creek and Central City.

The previous monthly record was $62.2 million in last July.

One reason the industry did so well was because the Black Hawk Casino by Hyatt opened in December. It is not only the newest casino, but the largest, with more than 1,300 gaming devices. It also boasts a Wofgang Puck Express restaurant, a Starbucks and a large entertainment lounge.

Last year, March was only the fourth best month for gaming, so it may be a hot summer for the casinos.

Black Hawk's 20 casinos posted $46.9 million in net proceeds, while Cripple Creek's 18 casinos collected $12.2 million. The five casinos in Central City took in $4.5 million.
