It also would represent the largest lease signed in Downtown in about a decade.

While the DNA is considering all of its options, it seems to have narrowed its decision to two main decisions.

One would be to move the News to the Denver Post Tower at 1560 Broadway, which already houses the Post's newsroom and some DNA operations. That would be the least expensive operation.

That building is owned by Chicago-based Equity Office Properties Trust. It is at the upper end of the mall, where parking is scarce and expensive.

The other choice is the only new building under construction in Downtown today, the 285,197-sf Legacy Plaza at 15th and Wewatta streets. Legacy Plaza, which will open in June 2003, will be built next to a new, 1,200-space, public parking garage.

Although this building is favored by most News' employees, and a number of Post employees, too, this would be a more expensive alternative than the Denver Post Tower. In addition, the DNA is putting the Rocky Mountain News building at 100 Gene Amole Way on the market for a reported $22 million.

The property includes about a 130,0000-sf office building, 50,000 sf of warehouse space, and about three acres in the Golden Triangle, according to public records.
