WASHINGTON, DC–The American Hotel & Lodging Association has announced that Kevin Carey has joined the association in the newly-created position of EVP and COO. Carey comes to AHLA from American Express where over the course of a twenty-year tenure, he held senior roles in the company's payments and business travel units. Most recently, he served as managing director, The Americas.

At AHLA Carey will oversee operations, member relations and sales, conventions and events, revenue growth initiatives, and will manage the affiliate Educational Institute.

WASHINGTON, DC–The Building Owners and Managers Association conferred designations upon 78 commercial properties in what was the largest first quarter class of designees for its BOMA 360 Performance Program.

For the Washington DC area, designations were conferred upon:

Arlington: 1400 Key Blvd.; 1401 Wilson Blvd.; 1501 Wilson Blvd.; 1515 Wilson Blvd.; 601 South 12th St.; 701 South 12th St.; Arlington Gateway and Potomac Tower.

Baltimore: 500 East Pratt St.

Bethesda: Piedmont Pointe II

The District: 1625 Eye St., NW; 1750 H St., NW; 2175 K St., NW; 455 Massachusetts Ave.; 620 F St., NW; 799 9th St., NW; Terrell Place and The WWF Building.

WASHINGTON, DC–The Schaeffer family has sold nine land parcels at 1801 New York Ave. NE to Douglas Development Corp. for $66 million. The site, bound by New York Avenue NE, Bladensburg Road NE and Montana Avenue NE, is part of 15 acres that Douglas has purchased as part of its plan to develop NewCityDC, a 1.5-million-square-foot, mixed-use project that will include 422 apartments, 18 townhomes, 550,000 square feet of retail, 156 hotel rooms and 2,900 parking spaces. Gerry Trainor of Transwestern brokered the transaction on behalf of the Schaeffer family. “Once built, NewCityDC will be a great complement to Douglas' nearby project, Hecht Warehouse District,” Trainor says.

OWINGS MILLS, MDNeuman Commercial Group, led by Principal Gil Neuman, has been named as agent for the sale of the 100,000-square foot Denton Plaza Shopping Center in the center of the Maryland Eastern Shore. The center is 73% leased to 15 national and regional tenants.

LANHAM, MDPerseus Realty sold a 98,653-square foot warehouse at 10100 Willowdale Rd. for $13.1 million. An affiliate of Industrial Property Trust purchased the property. Transwestern's Gerry Trainor, Mark Glagola and Jason Sullivan led the transaction.

ROCKVILLE, MDPromark Real Estate Services has closed on 451 Hungerford Dr., a 101,000 square-foot mixed-use building. The seven-story office-and-retail building is next to Rockville Town Square and directly across the street from the second phase of the Rockville Town Center.
