KANSAS CITY—Kansas City has emerged in 22nd place within the top 25 US tech cities, with San Jose and San Francisco capturing the first and second spots respectively, according to Cushman & Wakefield's inaugural “Tech Cities 1.0” national report. “This accomplishment is the result of more than a decade of work from different parts of the community,” says Michael T. Mayer, managing principal of Cushman & Wakefield's Kansas City office. “One of the most exciting parts of being included in this list is that it will generate more attention to the diverse successes that led to this national recognition. The city is a great place to be now, and it just keeps getting better.” The top 25 tech cities were determined by analyzing the concentration of factors such as talent, capital, and growth opportunity. Local factors played an important role in Kansas City's rise, according to C&W's senior director Miles McCune, who credits city initiatives that support tech incubators and organizations such as ThinkBig Partners, and The Kauffman Foundation.

CHICAGO—The Opus Group has just completed new headquarters for Renishaw Incorporated and oelheld US Inc., both at the Oakview Corporate Park in West Dundee, IL. Both buildings include office space as well as custom designed industrial warehouse space. “The fluidity, flexibility and adaptability of our design-build approach lent itself well to these projects, and we were able to deliver what each business needed and wanted while upholding functionality and aesthetic,” says Matt Bratzke, director, project management, Opus Design Build, LLC. Renishaw's new 134,000-square-foot warehouse and office facility will be its North American headquarters, and includes training and demonstration spaces, and an exhibit hall. The two-story building allows the company to consolidate all of its divisions in one location. Construction began in September 2015. The new 23,400-square-foot US headquarters for oelheld was designed with safety and environmental protection in mind for the machine-based lubricants and packaged oil products producer. Unique features of the building include a recessed warehouse floor and drainage barriers designed to contain spilled lubricants during the loading and unloading process in the warehouse. Construction on this project began in June 2016.
